The Background of Kavach
PRS
Permacel's brand protection business
started with the development of an innovative
security-label solution for the State
Bank of India ("SBI"). This
solution was used for the SBI's currency
note bundles way back in 1975. The solution
resulted in considerable time and cost
savings for the SBI, as it enabled the
bank to transfer cash between its various
branches without having to recount the
notes over and over again.
In the late seventies, PRS Permacel
mastered the technique of providing
custom-built, self-adhesive label solutions
to brand owners, using a combination
of speciality materials and mixing them
with printing and adhesive technology.
These solutions found applications with
a large number of customers in a variety
of industries.
By
continuously investing in technology
in the areas of printing, adhesives
and converting, PRS Permacel has continously
enhanced its knowledge base in brand
protection areas. The company also shares
this knowledge base with its customers
through continous involvement, and jointly
attempts to come out with innovative
technical solutions for brand protection
needs of customers. These include (amongst
others) 'passport laminations' for the
Government of India, 'Sales Tax seals'
for liquor bottles for various State
Governments, 'seal of genuinity' labels
for brand owners in the field of industrial
consumables & automobile spares,
and 'tamper-evident labels' on electricity
meters to prevent power theft.
PRS
Permacel was the first company in India
to commercialise the use of holograms
across all industry segments. When the
Government of India introduced the 'Electoral
Identity Card', each equipped with a
hologram, PRS Permacel was once again
in the forefront, supplying over 150
million holograms. With focus on innovation,
the company developed many variants
of holograms, such as fully-destructible
holograms, pattern-destructible holograms,
induction-sealable holograms, holograms
which work on automatic dispensers,
holograms to stick on difficult surfaces,
etc. thus, satisfying the varied needs
of brand owners.
In addition to perfecting its holographic
technology, PRS Permacel developed technical
processes to provide covert and overt
features, such as transparent numbering,
custom-destruct patterns, colour-changing
labels, etc., for security solutions.
In
the area of brand protection, PRS Permacel
has always believed that technology
is a key differentiator in staying ahead
of counterfeiters / duplicators and
other brand attackers. As its history
has shown, the company has consistently
enhanced its knowledge base on revolutionary
new technologies, and has been sharing
the same with its customers, thereby
enabling successful implementation of
various brand protection solutions.
