MUMBAI: Confederation of Indian Industry organized an International Conference on anti counterfeiting and piracy on 23-24 August in Mumbai.

The conference was spearheaded by CII National Committee of Intellectual Property (IP) Owners which held its first meeting in New Delhi, under the chairmanship of IBM India Ltd MD Shanker Annaswamy.

This committee strived to make India a truly ´IP savvy country´ encompassing IPR Policy, capacity development, IP creation, protection and enforcement issues in India.

Mr. Uday Thakkar, General Manager –Kavach, spoke about the current status of brand risk management with Indian Brands. Mr.Thakkar also shared details on how Kavach model can help Indian Brands to convert the problem of brand attack into a profit making opportunity. He also narrated on how Kavach helped its users to fight against the menace of counterfeiting and emerged as a winner!

The conference was focused on sectors like FMCG, auto components, drugs and pharmaceuticals, entertainment sector and IT/software piracy.

The objectives of the International Conference was to sensitize enforcement agencies, to facilitate capability building in IP owners, to exchange information and ideas that would eliminate the threat posed by counterfeiting/piracy, to strengthen cooperation between enforcement agencies and to chalk out strategies for enforcement agencies and industry action.

International association, International Trademark Association (INTA) and QBPC-Quality Brand protection Committee China have joined the efforts of National Committee of IP owners to combat counterfeiting and piracy.
