Packing covers meant for spurious cotton seed seized

Guntur: A team of Agriculture and Vigilance Departments raided an industrial unit A.R. Enterprises involved in manufacturing and printing of polyethene covers near Koppuravuru village in Pedakakani mandal and seized 20,000 covers being illegally printed for the purpose of selling BT cotton seeds.
Genuine BT cotton seeds are normally procured by Government agencies from recognized companies only but firms like the above one are duping the farmers by selling spurious seeds packed in fake labels.
Joint Director of Agriculture I Ramakrishna Murthy told The Hindu that the police were informed about the illegal activity being carried out by A.R. Enterprises managing partner M Balakrishna Rao and the industry premises was sought to be shut down.
